Freshwater -- Not an endless supply

Water covers 71 % of the Earth's surface, but only 1 % of that is available as freshwater. Salt water accounts for 97.2 % and the remaining is bound up in ice caps and glaciers.

The whole state of Idaho has been experiencing drought conditions and given that we live in a semi-arid desert, we have cause for concern.

Here are some ways to conserve water.

1) Do Not let water run while washing dishes -- Fill the sink to wash dishes and rinse in a pan of water.
2) Do Not let water run while brushing your teeth -- fill a glass with water to rinse.
3) Operate the sprinkler system at night.
4) Run the dishwasher and clothes washer when they are full and you save 1000 gallons per month.
5) Choose drought-tolerant shrubs and ground cover for hard to water areas.
6) Using the garbage disposal waste a great deal of water -- compost vegetable waste.
