Recycling -- Part 3, Household Waste Reduction

If you compost, you can cut your household waste by 30%. If you also recycle, you can cut it by 50% or more. In Idaho Falls, there are city recycling bins throughout the city.
The (City Sanitation) department also maintains recycle bins around the City for the deposit of sorted newspaper, plastic food and drink containers marked with number 1 thru 7, aluminum cans and tin cans.
A map is here (PDF).

In Idaho Falls, Green Guys Curbside Recycling will, for a small fee, pick up your household's and business's recyclables. They take everything the city will, plus glass (for an extra fee), junk mail, magazines, corrugated cardboard, and phone books.

Recycling fluorescent bulbs and rechargeable batteries

Because rechargeable batteries and fluorescent bulbs contain toxic metals, you don't want to just throw them in the trash.

In Idaho Falls, Home Depot accepts compact fluorescent bulbs and rechargeable batteries.

Idaho Falls Power (612-8526) accepts the regular fluorescent bulbs, Mon - Fri, from 8 to 5.
